So Gi-hyeon is a Beta who has spent years by the side of Jo Yeon-oh, a dominant Alpha, heir to the Haeseong Foundation, and CEO of Naban Gallery. Watching him from the shadows for as long as he can remember, Gi-hyeon’s unrequited love has only grown in secret. However, the rock-solid bond between them begins to fracture the moment Gi-hyeon confesses his feelings. Instead of an answer, Yeon-oh responds to Gi-hyeon’s years of devotion with a display of visceral, insulting disgust. “You… you’ve forgotten you’re just a Beta, haven’t you?” Yeon-oh is an Alpha who harbors a physiological loathing for the idea of dating a Beta. Despite his cruel and biting reprimand, Gi-hyeon tries to quietly surrender his feelings—but Yeon-oh refuses to let him go. Revealing a selfish obsession and a compulsive need for control, Yeon-oh won’t allow Gi-hyeon to even distance himself. “Fine. Let’s do it then—let’s date. You incredibly selfish bastard.” Instead of a breakup, they begin a deceptive relationship. Because it is Yeon-oh’s choice, Gi-hyeon resigns himself to it and accepts. “I told you I’d find someone for you if you really can’t hold back. If you’re going to do it, stick to Omegas.” Even while “dating,” Yeon-oh offers the cruelest form of consideration by encouraging Gi-hyeon to sleep with others. As his heart is callously shredded by Yeon-oh’s indifference, Gi-hyeon finally reaches his limit. Yet, at the end of this agonizing one-sided love, Gi-hyeon is faced with a physical transformation he never believed possible.
